A Flare Emission Monitoring project is typically conducted in six phases:
Step 1: Preparation of LDAR project
- Information exchange meeting
- Project introduction
- Project scooping
- Coding & naming conventions
- Prepare technical information (medium, stream, drawings, …)
- Stream composition
- Discuss database set-up
Step 2: Database preparation:
- Build site structure (site - unit - sections - drawings - flare lines)

Step 3: Source inventory:
- Project kick-off meeting
- Safety training
- Site visit
- Define monitoring routes
- Start inventory program
- Import all gathered information into database
- Prepare monitoring phase
Step 4: Unit monitoring phase
- Prepare detection device and gather relevant information
- Start monitoring program
- Regular status meetings
- Import all measurement data into FLAME
- Database update
Step 5: Reporting
- Consolidate all gathered data
- Prepare lessons learned
- Create LDAR report

Based on the output of the reporting information, a repair program can be planned. The achieved savings of raw materials can be huge and many times bigger than the total LDAR project costs (we have already found leaks which have an individual annual loss of more than 100.000 kg/yr of raw material)
