GPS mapping

GSP (Global Positioning System) is used to plan, map and profile pipelines, marker posts, rectifiers and any other related equipment, which need to be relocated in the future.
GPS utilizes various orbiting satellites to generate real-time geodetic datum coordinates. These coordinates can be delivered in different formats (e.g. Lambert 1, Lambert 72).

Principle of survey

First, the pipeline will be outlined with our specialized pipeline localisation equipment. Simultaneous the depth of cover survey and/or a right-of-way inspection can be performed, so optimal synergies can be made.
Consequently, our advanced digital GPS set (transmitter & receiver) is used to survey the detected points on the pipeline and all above ground pipeline equipment, such as rectifier, air marker, CP post, measurement post, valve station etc. Further more, road crossings, railways, ditches, and canal crossings will be surveyed.

Data obtained

The GPS mapping survey provides geometric data coordinates, which will be entered daily in our field computer. These dates can be calculated in different formats (e.g. Lambert 1, Lambert 72, …)

Processing and presentation of data

The gathered data on-site has an accuracy of 3-5 metre, after post processing using special software one can achieve sub-metre accuracy.
This gathered data and more detailed description + plan and photo's will be gathered into the information sheet.
If requested by the customer, we can enter gathered coordinates in electronic format into the technical drawings using AutoCAD or Micro station Software.

Manpower and Vehicles

A GPS mapping survey could be undertaken by 1 operator. For safety reasons and to speed up the progress, a second team member is recommended. Only one vehicle is needed to perform this service.

Advantages of the GPS mapping

• Data coordinates within sub-metre accuracy
• Detailed information sheet, including drawing and photo
• Easy find-back of reported data
• Data can be entered electronically on Autocad/Microstation drawings

Our experienced inspectors are well trained to analyse the gathered data and prepare a detailed report, which includes recommendation for corrective actions, or need for further detailed investigation.
They work fully compliant to our extensive Standard Operating Procedures and our safety manuals.
