Feasibility calculation

Measuring and repairing steam traps is very cost effective. Costs of steam are rising, as the cost of energy is rising all over the world. All our executed Steam management programs had a payback of LESS than 1 year, some even after a half year! To show you what cost can be reduced, we made up a case study from our own experience.

Case study : In a factory unit with approximately 2000 traps , we measured steam traps and calculated the steam losses.

We can read in the graph above that :

- 9 % is leaking
- 28 % is banking up condensate (Blocked)
- 56 % of all traps is working
- 7 % have another status

When we calculated the steam loss for the leaking traps we found a loss for more than 10.000 tons/year and that for only 180 leaking traps!

The cost to produce 1 ton steam in the same factory cost around 8.5 euros.

By repairing all traps we can save 85.000 euros .

The price of a steam trap is around the 300 euros.

The repair would cost you 180 * 300 = 54.000 euros.

This factory has a already a payback from the repair costs after 8 months!
